Monroe Food Pantry looks to collect 5,000 cans of soup by ‘Souper Bowl Sunday’
Monroe - The Monroe Food Pantry, with the support from community businesses, churches, schools and other organizations, is collecting cans of soup now through “Souper Bowl Sunday,” Feb. 1.
“Souper Bowl Sunday” started in 1990 when a South Carolina minister said during his sermon: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat.”
From this sermon evolved the Souper Bowl of Caring, which was started as a way to collect food for the hungry.
The Monroe Food Pantry’s goal is to collect 5,000 cans to feed those in the community who are in need.
