Teen charged with drawing large swastika on Mill Pond
Monroe - Monroe Village Police have charged a 14-year-old Monroe youth in connection with etching a 20-foot-by-20-foot swastika in the snow on one of the downtown ponds where people skate.
Police were first alerted on Saturday, Jan. 17, to the symbol made notorious because of its Nazi associations. Police said the large swastika was visible from the walking path that surrounds the Mill Pond. Officers removed it.
Following a series of leads, village police arrested the 14-year-old on Jan. 20. He was charged with first-degree aggravated harassment, a felony, and his case was referred to Orange County Family Court.
