Assemblyman’s Congressional listening tour stops in Warwick

Assemblyman Greg Ball speaks with Steve Penning and Jan Jensen last Sunday in Warwick.

WARWICK — State Assemblyman Greg Ball, the Putnam County Republican who is exploring a run for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 19 District of New York, stopped Sunday afternoon in Warwick during his Congressional listening tour.

Ball toured Warwick farms and farm markets throughout the afternoon, accompanied by Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, owner of the General’s Garden in Warwick, and Jan Jensen, a local farmer.

“I loved pressing the flesh and listening to voters throughout the larger Congressional district, but it pained me to hear the stories of personal economic tragedy,” Ball said in a press release from his office. “I was wowed with the great reception and glad to know that the issues I am concerned about, are also the top concerns of many of the folks I met. We must reclaim America’s promise to our seniors, our small business owners, our immigrants, our veterans and our kids. For good reason, people are genuinely concerned about the future of this great country.”

New York’s 19th Congressional seat is held by John Hall, Democrat from the Dutchess County community of Dover. Hall, who defeated longtime Republican Sue Kelly in 2006, was re-elected last fall.

Ball, who grew up on a farm, is serving his second term in the State Assembly, where he is ranking member of the influential committee on Corporations, Authorities, and Commissions. Ball holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the United States Air Force Academy, and received an honorable discharge in 2005 at the rank of captain after service as an active duty officer in the United States Air Force.

“From President Bush to President Obama we have seen reckless spending and an unprecedented expansion of government power,” Ball said. “Because of the current economic crisis, folks of all political parties are hungry for common sense solutions and real leadership to bring this country back to basics. As I continue my listening tour, I will keep an ear open to improve my common sense platform of kitchen table issues to get New York’s economy back on track.”
