MONROE - The Southeast Regional Chamber Council will hold the seventh annual Monroe Clean Sweep tomorrow, April 25, from 8 a.m. to noon.
Hundreds of volunteers have already signed up to clean Route 17M beginning at the intersection of Route 17 and 17M in the Village of Harriman down to Wally’s Ice Cream Parlor on the other side of town.
Volunteers will be given teal-colored T-shirts to wear as they help “celebrate Earth Day,” said organizers, who expect a good turnout because of the expected warm and sunny weather.
Registration is at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe where a free continental breakfast awaits participants. T-shirts, gloves, garbage and recycling bags will also be distributed at the church.

" Monroe is a great place Police Department DPW Ect. Harriman should be disbanded. all you have there is a bunch of drunken cops and d.p.w. that does nothing not sure what the rest of the village does but I pay a lot of taxes. "

" I Think it is great they want to clean up that stretch of 17M and God Bless the volunteers but why don't we go right to the problem and that is that trailer park on 17m. Are we all blind? It is a dump site. Just drive past this place and see all the garbage. It is filled with illegal immigrants who walk the roadsides and dump garbage as they go. The owner of that property should be out there cleaning instead of giving the Village of Monroe a dirty eyesore. I wait for the bus each morning and I am discusted by what i see over there. It has been a blight for many years and nobody does anything about it. Get rid of that and the James Motel and maybe, just maybe Monroe could be like it was before. Immigration should be called on that trailer park and the place torn down.. "

" This is great that the community does this but where are our DPW workers. They get paid very well and at least in Harriman, they never stop to pick up trash on the road. Are they too good for that because I do believe it is part of their job. Harriman is littered with trash. You always see 2 of them driving around in a truck on a rainy day but they should be out there collecting trash. Thats what our tax dollars pay them to do. Who is the DPW boss in Harriman and does he not see the trash on the sides of the road when he drives around? Order your men to do it or replace the department head. "
