Warwick - On Saturday, April 25, The Warwick Valley Humane Society hosted a low cost spay/neuter mobile clinic for cats at its Animal Shelter just off Kings Highway.

The program was conducted by TARA (The Animal Rights Alliance) which has visited the Shelter for the past three years and also conducts frequent spay/neuter programs at various locations throughout the County.

Steve Tardif and Nancy Coenig assisted Veterinarians Dr. Gerard Krazinski and Dr. Ralphael Gilbert who performed the procedures.

Thirty cats were registered on Saturday morning and returned that afternoon to their owners who paid $65 for the service. Residents of Warwick and Chester who present a spay/neuter certificate were also eligible for a $50 refund under a special program. The Warwick Valley Humane Society manages those funds for the Towns.

On a previous spay/neuter program more than 50 cats were registered.

“As a result of responsible spaying/neutering,” said Suzyn Barron, president of the Warwick Valley Humane Society, “we have observed a significant reduction in what had been a serious problem of overpopulation and nuisance strays.”

All proceeds from public service events are used to help support the homeless pets at the Animal Shelter.

Funds are needed for normal operating expenses including electricity, gas, fuel costs and so forth as well as medical care. Donations of canned kitten food, cat litter, bleach, canned dog food, cleaning solutions and laundry detergent are also accepted.

For additional information about future spay/neuter programs call the Warwick Valley Humane Society at 986-2473.
