    St. Joseph’s earns math honors


    NEWTON — The seventh and eighth grade teams from St. Joseph Regional School in Newton recently earned first and second place in New Jersey Math League competition for Sussex County.

    The first place team — the seventh-grade — also had Jacqueline Barnett and Evan Barnett tied for third place in the county for the individual competition.

    The top finishers for St. Joseph’s seventh-grade were Jacqueline Barnett and Evan Barnett with a first place place tie; Michael Campbell, second place; Daniel Barnett, third place; and Jordan LeFrois, fourth place.

    The second place team in the county, the eighth-grade, had Brian McNamara place fourth in the county for the individual competition. The top finishers were Brian McNamara, first place; Victoria Litterio, second place; Clarissa Verleur and Isabella Marra, tied for third place; and Rachel Bulko, fourth place.

    Grades three through six also competed in the county competition, but did not place.

    In the sixth grade, winners were Marianna Sternefeld, first place; Natalie Martin, second place; Aaron Burgos, third place; Charles Hatler, fourth place; and Daniel Becker, fifth place.

    Fifth-grade winners: Wyatt Long, first place; Charles Sengor and Kathryn LeFrois, tied for second place; Nicole Barnett, third place; and Emily Burns, Marissa Sternefeld and Emily Weltner, tied for fourth place.

    Fourth grade:: Christina McAdam, Anna Campbell, Natalia Quintero and Ava Villaverde, first place tie; and Dayne Cakerri and Erin Babcock, second place tie.

    Third grade: Lauren Massarella, first place; Robert Kerwick and Siena Tipton, second place tie; and Jack Ryan and Edward Martinez-Partida, third place tie.
