    Buckbee wins GOP primary

Warwick - Following a count of absentee ballots, Al Buckbee defeated incumbent Republican County Legislator Ben Winstanley by 28 votes in the GOP primary for the 10th legislative district.

Buckbee had been declared the “unofficial winner” by 28 votes on Primary Day by the Board of Elections. Election officials completed the count of absentee ballots on Sept. 22. Buckbee picked up 17 more votes in the absentees, making the final total Buckbee - 493 and Winstanley - 461.

The 10th legislative district is the largest of three seats that represent parts of the Town of Warwick in Goshen and includes the villages of Greenwood Lake and Warwick.

In a prepared statement, Buckbee recognized Winstanley’s work and public service.

“He was a strong opponent and I will be looking to him for advice on how best to serve the people of this district,” Buckbee said. “Republicans will have a difficult time fending off Democrat challenges for legislative seats throughout Orange County. My district will be no different. Ben can play a significant role in assuring that the seat remains in Republican hands. I invite him to be an important part of the team as we move forward to the General Election on Nov. 3, just six weeks from now.”

“I may be new in the field of politics and public service and I know I have a lot to learn,” the candidate added. “But, you, the voters, can teach me what I need to know. I’m a good listener and a fast learner. I’m excited about moving forward in the General Election which starts today.”
