Published: October 8, 2009
Berkeley College President Dario A. Cortes, PhD, is proud to announce the appointment of Laura M. Jewell, MBA, as director of communications. In this role, Jewell will work closely with Dr. Cortes, his chief of staff and his cabinet to manage internal and external communications from the president’s office.

“Clear and timely communication is at the heart of every successful organization. This is no less true for an institution of higher education,” said Dr. Cortes. “Ms. Jewell has had great success in the field of strategic communications and will be a strong asset to the president’s office at Berkeley College.”

In 2001, Jewell founded Jewell Marketing Associates, a firm specializing in an integrated approach of branding, marketing, communications, public relations, online initiatives and event management.

Her firm recently led an award-winning promotional campaign for the City of Asbury Park, highlighting the city’s revitalization efforts through the publication of a commemorative magazine and special food, arts and cultural events, which garnered extensive national media and print coverage.

Prior to founding Jewell Marketing Associates, Jewell served as global marketing director for Lucent Technologies in Holmdel, where she led her team in the development of strategic global communications initiatives and training programs.

Utilizing her experience in marketing and communications, Jewell has served as a professional speaker, guest lecturer, mentor and workshop instructor to business associations, colleges and universities.

Jewell holds an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
