Jelly Bean Field Day a sweet success

Dean Bowen and Alexander Vieira hop their way down the field.

GOSHEN — How sweet it is! The Goshen Intermediate School celebrated the 30th anniversary of its “Jelly Bean Field Day,” which was held the second week of October. Students in grades 3 to 5 participated in the annual event, which promotes fun, fitness and cooperation in a noncompetitive environment.

During field day, students hit the playground and rotate between different stations to earn their jelly beans. The physical tasks they were asked to complete included jumping rope, hula hooping, kicking a soccer ball, throwing a football and doing a cartwheel or somersault.

According to Kathy Magid, physical education teachers at the Goshen Intermediate School, “Jelly Bean Field Day” is greatly supported by the school’s Parent/Teacher Organization as well as an enormous amount of parent volunteers. This year, more than 200 parents helped staff the event.
