County schedules first 2009 H1N1 flu clinic

Newton — The Sussex County Department of Environmental and Public Health Services has received its first shipment of 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine and the first H1N1 flu clinic will be held at Sussex County Community College on Sunday, Nov. 1.

The first clinic will offer only 2009 H1N1 nasal spray vaccine for healthy children between the ages of 2 and 24, due to the limited initial supply and guidance from the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

Residents can make their own appointments by visiting the county’s flu Web site, at www.sussex.nj.us/flu, and following the directions. A confirmation page for the appointment can be printed once the required information has been entered. Individuals without Internet access can call 973-579-0570, for assistance with registration.

An appointment must be made in order to attend the clinic and no walk-ins will be permitted.

Additional clinics that are scheduled throughout November will also offer the 2009 H1N1 injectable vaccine for remaining priority populations including: pregnant women, household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age, healthcare and emergency medical services personnel, all people from 6 months through 24 years of age, and persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.

Those with underlying health conditions or questions about personal health, should contact their health care providers to discuss concerns about the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine.
