Police chiefs start coat drive

Goshen — Police chiefs in Orange and Sullivan counties are conducting their annual winter coat drive.
The chiefs are asking for donations of new or gently used winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves.
The drive begins on Saturday, Oct. 24 and continues until Sunday, Nov. 1. Donations may be dropped off day or night at any of the participating police departments, which include: Chester, Goshen, Tuxedo, Wallkill, Warwick, Woodbury, Chester, Goshen, Greenwood Lake, Harriman, Highland Falls, Monroe, Tuxedo Park, Walden, Washingtonville, Cornwall, Crawford, Middletown, Newburgh, Port Jervis, Blooming Grove, Montgomery, Newburgh, and New Windsor. Participating departments in Sullivan County include Fallsburgh, Liberty, and Monticello.
During last year’s drive, hundreds of winter coats were donated and given to people in need, said Monroe Police Chief Dom Giudice, president of the Police Chiefs’ Association of Orange County.
The coats will be distributed in the county where they are donated, first to county agencies that help people in need and then to other recognized organizations that lend assistance.
