Students celebrate heritage holiday with guacamole
Seventh grade Spanish students Marko Djapick, Abigail Fitzpatrick, Cheyenne Coleman, Tara Jordan, Diana Hernandez, and Alexis Bello enjoy guacamole made by their teachers, Gaby Ackert and Margaret Storms.
GOSHEN — C J. Hooker Middle School students in Gaby Ackert’s seventh grade Spanish classes recently joined with students in Margaret Storms’ family and consumer science class to prepare and enjoy homemade guacamole to celebrate El Dia de la Hispanidad, or El Dia de la Raza.
Most Latinos/Hispanos celebrate their heritage during this holiday, which is held on Oct. 12.
Both teachers wanted their students to celebrate their heritage and diversity, and encourage them to be proud of their backgrounds. Parents and guardians were also invited to celebrate El Dia de la Raza with the sixth and seventh grade students.
