    Businesses must pay re-registration fee

Albany — Business owners throughout New York will now have to pay a $50 Sales Tax Vendor Re-registration fee in accordance with the Fiscal Year 2008-09 Revenue Budget Bill, which Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun (R.C.- Bloooming Grove) voted against.

Prior to 2009, when businesses applied for a Certificate of Authority 20 days prior to collecting sales tax, they were not charged any fee and did not have to renew their certificate.

Included in the bill, often referred to as the Deficit Reduction Package, was this fee through the Department of Taxation and Finance which directs all businesses that remit more than $3,000 in sales tax per year to pay this new one-time fee to obtain their new Certificate of Authority.

Those businesses who must pay this fee can call 1-888-200-2126 for more information.
