Students will serenade the troops for the holidays
CHESTER — A Songs for Troops concert is being organized by Chester Middle School Principal Ernest Jackson, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who served most of his military career in the 3rd Infantry Division.
Utilizing the Orange-Ulster BOCES ISDN-based video conferencing technology, the concert will be broadcast simultaneously on Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), from each of the participating schools to members of the 3rd Infantry Division, 26th Field Artillery Regiment and perhaps a unit in Pakistan.
The two-way connection will also allow the students in each of the districts to see each other and their audience overseas.
Jackson has been coordinating local participation to support the troops for the past eight years. While he continues to solicit donations for soldier care packages, mail and phone cards, Songs for Troops is a way of getting a large number of students actively involved in a community service project that will touch an even larger number of soldiers - many of whom are away from their families for the first time.

" Jason LaTassa announced tonight he was dropping his lawsuit against the Chester School District because he now feels confident this current administration will protect children and keep parents informed about their children. Jason told anyone who asked him why was he suing, that it was because as a parent he felt the district should notify a parent immediately if they suspect their child is using drugs, alcohol and want to search them for any reason. He is not against the district questioning and searching students as long as a parent/guardian is notified. The former superintendent refused to sit and meet with him and discuss his concerns. He said this could have ended before it started if administration would have just communicated better. The current superintendent also announced that a contract for students involved in ANY extracurricular activity, sports, clubs, band, chorus, the play etc. was being finalized by a committee of coaches and advisors to be presented to the board for their review. Seems more has been done by this administrator and new board in the less then 1 month he has been with the district then the 3 long years the former administrator and the former board. "

Hired from upstate, she came into the job with broad support from teachers and faculty.
So it came as a shock when she abruptly resigned after just three years in office.
"It surprised everyone on the staff," said school psychologist Pam Kavenagh, president of the district's 90-member teachers union.
But far from being unusual, Livingston's sudden departure two weeks ago has become part of a growing norm, according to superintendent groups and recruiters.
Surveys show that superintendents are leaving at an alarming rate, even as the pool of qualified candidates to replace them grows smaller.
Pundits blame a number of factors for the turnover: The growing number of mandates and reporting requirements means increasing pressure to produce, while calls for lower taxes undermine their ability to do so; the volatile nature of school district politics made fickle by increasing turnovers on school boards; and the onset of new media, such as blogs, and text-messaging that threaten to turn even once minor school controversies into public relations nightmares. " Sixteen years ago, the district bid farewell to one of the longest-serving superintendents in Orange County, Ed Stoddard, who had led the district for 20 years. Since then, the district has gone through three full-time superintendents and one interim superintendent, each of whom served for successively shorter periods.
Livingston's stay of three years was the shortest by far. The district will pay an interim superintendent $700 a day in addition to paying Livingston her $139,050 salary and benefits until she can find work elsewhere or through Dec. 31, 2010 whichever comes first, according to a separation agreement.
According to New York State Council of School Superintendents data, the average career of a superintendent has plummeted from 20 years prior to 2000 to 11 years in 2006. The average stay of administrators in a single district has dropped from 5.6 years in 2003 to 4.7 years in 2007.
And districts can't fill the vacant positions fast enough. "

As a matter of fact, the first article that appeared in the paper accentuating the differences in opinion between Livingston and Murray was printed knowing that livingston was no longer with the district. The reporter pretended that we still had a superintendent. Everyone I knew took bets that it was a prelude to future articles blaming the board for Livingston's sudden departure. I wonder who gave the record all of the info? Could it be a fellow board member? Could it be a member of the staff?..... There is something wrong with a paper who doesn't print both sides of a story.....That's why the Record is losing its readership. "

He had a link there so people could watch. Never tried to sell anything. Think about it - Why would he try to see a Youtube tape that people can download else for free? For your information, Troops to Teachers is a governmnet program that helps eligible military personnel begin a new career as teachers in public schools where their skills, knowledge and experience are most needed. It is my understanding that jackson VOLUNTEERS his time as a mentor for this program. Since the program started 12 years ago, more than 9,300 troops have served in America's classrooms. And now it really meets two goals: Many soldiers returning from war need jobs, and many schools need teachers. From what I understand, Jackson's only role is to provide soldiers with job leads and give them advice to help them transition from the military to the classroom. This program was hailed by NBC news a few years ago. I commend all who are involved. "

Collecting phone cards - jackson didn't host the collection -it was done by Mr. Buck and the Florida (NY) radio station to provide soldiers serving in Iraq with phone cards so they could call their loved ones at home. Only part Jackson played was the Academy supported the stations' efforts by collecting used cell phones. The used cell phones were donated to the radio station which in turn donated the phone cards to the military. Jackson did provide contact information for his old unit (which obviously he is no longer affliatled with) for the station to send the phone cards. Sounds like a win -win situation for everyone (except you who are looking to cast stones). I commend the radio station, Mr. jackson and everyone who contributed in this great community project. "

" The percentage of students receiving food help has jumped from 21 percent in 2006 to 29 percent total of about 1,800 students. In Pine Bush Elementary School alone, nine families have already asked the nurse's office for food."It's a very scary time," says the school's nurse, Bobbie Ercoline. What's worse, say those close to the kids, is that many more students who could use the help don't get it.They or their families are often too embarrassed to apply even though the kids receiving assistance aren't identified when they get their food. SOURCE THE TIMESA HERALD RECORD.LETS NOT FORGET WHEN COUGH COUGH WENT TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO VERBALLY CHASTISE A CHILD AND MOTHER REGARDING 25cents owed for lunch money.MANY PARENTS DO NOT FILL OUT THE REDUCED LUNCH FORMS BECAUSE CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION IS LEAKED BY STAFF.HARVEY,PLEASE CHECH THIS OUT AND START GETTING THE CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM.TIMES ARE TOUGH AND MANY CHILDREN AREN'T GETTING WHAT THEY NEED.COUGH SAW TO THAT.LETS PUT THE CHILDREN FIRST AND ADULT AGENDAS LAST ON THE LIST.COUGH FORGOT WHO AND WHAT THE JOB DESCRIPTION ENTAILED.ALSO,PLEASE HARVEY HAVE THE BUS PERMISSION SLIPS ACCOUNTED FOR SO CHILDREN WHO DON'T LIVE IN CHESTER DON'T GET THE/BUS/BEC/DAD/IS/MIDDLE/SCHL.PRINCIPAL. " the fashion is out.but let today begin a new era in chester and we will only mention a certain person as cough, cough.in polite society we will see if justice is blind and it is really abt. who you know rather than facing the charges and being judged fairly.there was a lot of bullying and menacing behavior by cough, cough.so lets see if there will be justice and cough will feel the 'swift hand of justice'or 'the blindfolded lady justice whose scales are balanced towards adults who abuse authority to terrorize a community.lets see if cough, cough can take it as well as cough can dish it out.lets see the judge and d.a. think about the' alleged perjuries that were suborned by cough and entertained by the judge and the d.a.'s very prejudicial attitude towards mrs marino.it bordered on the edge of madness, a d.a. is supposed to represent the people of new york.lets see the d.a. have the same amt of vitrolic acidic hatred towards cough, cough on nov.10.2009.justice must always be tempered with mercy and mrs marino recieved neither.the chester residents are tired of bullying authority figures who represent their own agendas-bruderhofs for example.as opposed to what is good and fair to/the/people'best/interests. " i approve of 'sentiment' but collecting money and phone cards and jackson's other enterprises are better suited for non-profit organizations.jackson probably should be working at united way, veteran's administration or red cross since he seems to do so much of his 'fund raising on school time and using schoolchildren to teach other people's community service.is this to get them ready when they are alleged charged with a crime they are ready to do community service.harvey please stop the madness with jackson.let him do his fundraising at burke h.s.where his child attends or his own community in pa.stop making chester schoolchildren 'pawns of jackson's so called civic mindedness madness.jackson should be working on bringing up the scores on the nys standardized tests and facilitating the children's educations.by the way harvey, jackson has posted a beggar's plea with the GEORGE LUCAS FOUNDATION THAT IS HEADED BY ERIC SCHWARTZ.JACKSON WAS SOLICITING DONATIONS FOR 'CITIZENSHIP' PROGRAMS ON THE WEB.I QOUTE'I AM ERNEST JACKSON A PRINCIPAL IN THE CHESTER SCHOOL DISTRIST AND AM INTERESTED IN YOUR PROGRAM ASAP.
